'Production started in 1964 of the 4-seater (later 5-seater) Skoda 1000MB with a 4-cylinder 998cc ohv 48bhp engine placed in the car behind the final drive gear and a self supporting body, was introduced. Top speed of 77 mhp (124km/h), fuel consumption of 71/100km, and a price of 44,000 Czechoslovak crowns (the older Octavia cost 38,000 Kcs) made the S1000MB a suitable car for average motorists. More powerful engines of the same capacity but of 52bhp and with a twin carburettor were mounted to the MBX two-door models.' motorbase
